FILM SCORING

An active film scorer, "Pauchi Sasaki's effective scores" [Variety 2015] are featured in more than 50 feature-length and short films. Pauchi is the recipient of four international "Best Original Score" awards from 29th Festival Cine Ceara (Brazil), 30th Festival de Cinema Latino Americano di Trieste (Italy); Filmocorto, in the 15th International Latin American Film Festival of Lima; and CONACINE, the National Film Council of Peru. In 2016 she was selected by composer and film scorer Philip Glass to become her protégé for the period of 2 years as part of The Rolex Mentor and Protégé Arts Initiative award.

Described by New York Classical Review as “an unobtrusively fascinating sound of the finest ambient music,” her work evokes intimate and subjective sonic landscapes. She intertwines electroacoustic timbres with field recordings and synthesis, shaping a musical language that moves fluidly between acoustic, amplified, and electronic worlds. Recognized for her virtuosic stylistic versatility, she composes with ease across genres—from experimental music to improvisation-driven, tradition-influenced ensemble works, as well as symphonic forms and popular music—inhabiting and transforming a wide spectrum of musical aesthetics with equal depth and precision.

  • In Pauchi’s words: “Composing for film demands the development of tools in order to achieve and assure specific effects in a diversity of parameters such as mood, narration, emotions, symbolism, directionality and aesthetic unity. Working with narrative artwork makes composition a highly conscious, strategic and delicate process, since music can dramatically transform the semantic content of the story.

In film scoring, inspiration is shaped by the context and the constant interrelation and interdependence between sound and extra musical elements. As a film scorer, I recognize emotions, temperaments and sonic aesthetics as parameters that need to be carefully employed. While composing, I imagine I'm working with a long multichannel sound mixing board where I can balance sounds and non-sonic parameters through potentiometers. The image of a console helps me to visualize the complete work, it allows me to calibrate the overall aesthetic depending on the needs of each film; and it also helps me to recognize the segments that have the higher poetic potential within the structure.”
